ORS - Optical Remote Sensing

ORS - Optical Remote Sensing - has its basis in the study of the interactions between light and the molecules in the atmosphere.


When electromagnetic radiation traverses the atmosphere, it interacts with the existing molecules and atoms.


The extraordinary thing about it is that each different molecule uniquely interacts with radiation. This means that, just like we use fingerprints to identify human beings, we can use a molecule’s interaction with light to identify it.


The system can therefore be used to monitor the atmospheric composition and to intelligently automate almost any action that depends on it.


Modules

  • Control Module, processes the acquired atmospheric data and communicates with the actuating module

  • Optical Module, comprised of a light source (which can also be the Sun), a telescope and a spectrometer, this module is responsible for the production and acquisition of the radiation to analyse

  • Actuator Module, connected to the control module and to a number of electrical actuators is used to perform the required automations
